2000년 첫 발걸음을 내디딘 이래, 그동안 제주영화제를 정성껏 이끌어오신 제주영화제 권범 이사장님을 비롯한 모든 관계자분들의 노력에 깊은 감사를 드립니다.

제주영화제는 제주의 고유성과 세계 섬 문화의 다양성을 아름답게 담아내는 창구로 자리매김해왔습니다.

특히, 섬 지역 간 영화문화 교류를 선도하는 세계 유일의 섬영화제로서의 위상은 도민의 문화적 자긍심을 높이는 데 크게 기여하고 있습니다.

올해 개막작 ‘인생 세탁소’ 는 1988년 제주 탑동 해녀투쟁을 배경으로 한 작품으로, 제주라는 땅이 품은 역사와 공동체의 삶을 깊이 있게 조명하고 있습니다.

이처럼 제주영화제는, 단순한 영화제를 넘어 제주 정신을 문화예술로 승화시키는 매우 뜻깊은 무대입니다.

특히, 문화 소외지역 청소년을 위한 ‘유랑극장', 국제 교류를 촉진하는 ‘아일랜드 시네마', 지역 영화인들을 격려하는 ‘트멍섹션' 등 다양한 프로그램은 모두가 함께하는 포용적 영화제로서의 가치를 잘 보여주고 있습니다.

제주도정은 앞으로도 제주영화제가 독창성과 내실, 감동을 두루 갖춘 세계적인 문화예술 행사로 성장할 수 있도록 지속적인 지원과 응원을 아끼지 않겠습니다.

스무 번째 열리는 이번 영화제가 제주 문화예술의 더 큰 도약의 계기가 되기를 바라며, 제주를 찾은 모든 관객과 영화인 여러분께 감동과 영감이 가득한 시간이 되시기를 기원합니다.

Dear filmmakers and Jeju residents, I sincerely congratulate you on the opening of the 20th Jeju Film Festival.

Since its first steps in 2000, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all the staff including Jeju Film Festival Chairman Kwon Beom, who have diligently led the Jeju Film Festival.

The Jeju Film Festival has established itself as a window that beautifully captures Jeju’s uniqueness and the diversity of global island culture.

In particular, its status as the world’s only island film festival that leads film culture exchanges between island regions has greatly contributed to enhancing Jeju residents’ cultural pride.

This year’s opening film, “Life Laundry,” is a film based on the Jeju haenyeo struggle over Tap-dong in 1988, and deeply illuminates the history embraced by the land of Jeju and community life of Jeju.

In this way, the Jeju Film Festival is a very meaningful stage that goes beyond a simple film festival and sublimates the Jeju spirit into culture and art.

In particular, various programs such as the ‘Traveling Theater’ for youth in culturally underprivileged areas, ‘Island Cinema’ that promotes international exchange, and ‘Tmong Section’ that encourages local filmmakers demonstrate the value of the festival as an inclusive film festival that everyone can participate in.

The Jeju Provincial Government will continue to provide support and encouragement so that the Jeju Film Festival can grow into a world-class cultural and artistic event with originality, substance, and emotion.

We hope that this 20th film festival will be an opportunity for a greater leap forward for Jeju culture and arts, and we hope that it will be a time filled with emotion and inspiration for all the audiences and filmmakers who visit Jeju.

올해로 스무 번째를 맞는 제주영화제는 제주만의 아름다운 자연과 문화, 그리고 영화 예술이 어우러진 소중한 축제입니다. 더불어 세계 섬지역의 매력적인 영화를 발굴하고 제주의 고유성과 독창성과 연계하여 제주의 우수한 영화를 소개하는 등 제주 영화 발전에 크게 기여하고 있습니다.

그동안 영화제를 위해 애써주신 제주영화제 권 범 이사장님과 관계자 여러분 그리고 제주도민 여러분의 열정에 깊은 존경을 표합니다.

올해로 20주년을 맞는 제주영화제는 8월 24일 개막하여 29일간 일본, 영국, 독일, 덴마크, 스웨덴 등 10여개국 총 30여편의 영화가 상영될 예정입니다. 세계 섬 지역과의 영화문화 교류를 통해 제주의 매력을 세계에 확산하는 뜻깊은 시간이 되리라 확신합니다.

농협은행 제주본부 역시 지역사회와 함께 성장하며, 제주가 더욱 풍요롭고 행복한 미래로 나아갈 수 있도록 다양한 지원과 노력을 아끼지 않고 있습니다. 아울러 제주영화제와 함께 문화예술 발전에 기여하고, 지역사회와 상생하는 든든한 동반자가 되겠습니다.

I sincerely congratulate you on the opening of the 20th Jeju Film Festival, a celebration for filmmakers in Jeju. I also warmly welcome everyone who loves and remembers the Jeju Film Festival.

This year marks the 20th Jeju Film Festival, a precious festival that blends Jeju’s unique natural beauty, culture, and cinematic arts.

The festival continues to discover the island’s charming films, connect with Jeju’s rich traditions and distinctiveness, and introduce outstanding works, greatly contributing to the development of Jeju cinema.

I would like to express my deepest respect to Chairman Kwon Beom, all related officials, and the passionate citizens of Jeju who have supported the festival over the years.

The 20th Jeju Film Festival will open on August 24 and run for 29 days, screening about 30 films from 10 countries, including the UK, Germany, Denmark, and Sweden. I am confident that this will be a meaningful time to expand Jeju’s appeal to the world through cinematic and cultural exchanges with island regions across the globe.
