2000년 제주트멍영화제로 시작한 제주영화제가 어느덧 스물한 번째 막을 올립니다. 오랜 시간 영화제를 이끌어오신 (사)제주영화제 권범 이사장님과 관계자 여러분께 깊이 감사드립니다. 다채로운 작품으로 이번 영화제에 함께해 주신 국내외 영화인 여러분께도 따뜻한 인사를 전합니다.

올해는 12개국 36편의 작품이 제주시 연동과 서귀포, 우도와 추자도 등 제주 곳곳에서 관객과 만납니다. 저마다의 개성과 매력을 지닌 작품들이 영화제에 풍성한 즐거움을 더할 것으로 기대합니다.

이번 영화제에서는 개인의 삶부터 공동체의 역사까지 폭넓은 이야기가 펼쳐집니다. 특히 제주 4·3의 기억을 담은 폐막작 <내 이름은>은 영화제의 마지막에 묵직한 울림을 남길 것입니다. 자신을 들여다보고 서로를 이해하게 하는 영화의 힘을 느끼는 시간이 되길 바랍니다.

제주에는 자연과 역사, 사람들의 삶이 빚어낸 수많은 이야기가 있습니다. 그 이야기들이 창작자의 상상력을 만나 작품으로 태어나고, 더 많은 관객에게 닿아 새로운 창작 기회로 이어질 때 제주 영화문화와 콘텐츠산업의 토대도 더욱 단단해집니다.

Greetings, filmmakers and audience members.

I sincerely congratulate you on the opening of the 21st Jeju International Film Festival in 2026.

The Jeju International Film Festival, which began as the Jeju Teumeong Film Festival in 2000, is now raising its twenty-first curtain. I extend my deep gratitude to Chairman Kwon Beom and all the staff of the Jeju International Film Festival for leading the festival for such a long time. I also extend my warm greetings to filmmakers from both Korea and abroad who have joined us for this festival with a diverse array of works.

This year, 36 films from 12 countries will meet audiences across Jeju, including Yeon-dong in Jeju City, Seogwipo, Udo, and Chujado. We look forward to these works, each possessing its own unique character and charm, adding rich enjoyment to the festival.

This festival will unfold a wide range of stories, from individual lives to the history of the community. In particular, the closing film, 〈My Name Is〉, which captures the memory of the Jeju 4·3 Incident, will leave a profound resonance at the end of the festival. I hope this will be a time for you to feel the power of cinema to look within ourselves and understand one another.

Jeju is home to countless stories woven from nature, history, and the lives of its people. When these stories meet the imagination of creators to be born as works of art, and reach a wider audience to lead to new creative opportunities, the foundation of Jeju’s film culture and content industry becomes even more solid.

The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province will provide strong support to ensure that local filmmakers can consistently continue their creative work and showcase their capabilities in Jeju. Furthermore, we will contribute our efforts to help the Jeju Film Festival expand the base of Jeju’s film culture and grow into a representative cultural festival enjoyed by both filmmakers and audiences.

I hope this film festival will leave behind questions and lingering impressions that will remain in the hearts of our audience.
